Mixed Media Monday - Wishing You A Merry Christmas

Happy Monday Bloggie Friends & Welcome!  Norma G. here, are you ready for a little Mixed Media?!

Okay...I need your help with this week's project!  I made a beautiful (if I do say so myself, hehehe) piece of art to display during the holiday season but my original color choice didn't show up well in the photos.  I stamped my image again in a second color so I need you to help me decide which color to go with.

All right let's get started!  This is the second color by the way ;D

To make this piece of art, I started with a 3.5" x 6" piece of poplar.  To prep the wood, I applied a generous layer of gesso.
Once the gesso was dry, I sprayed the wood with Dylusions Ink Sprays in London Blue, Vibrant Turquoise and Post Box Red.  I used a flat brush to blend the colors together.  After that, I applied some Micropearl Pearl Ex for some shimmer.  To help set the Pearl Ex, I spritzed on a little Copper ART-C glimmer mist.  Next for a little background interest, I stamped the square flourish stamp from the Flourish Elements Cling Stamp in a harlequin pattern.  Doesn't that look cool?!  I'm definitely gonna do that again in another project.

Okay this is where I need your help.  This is the original image I stamped.  It's the new Madonna and Child Cling Stamp.  I used Oak Brown ink from Close to My Heart and embossed with Ranger Ancient Gold embossing powder.  I inked the edges with TH Vintage Photo.  I also sewed around all the edges.  I really love the softness of this image and I think it's really beautiful in person but it just doesn't show up well in photos.

See what I mean?  I attached some gold tinsel to finish off the edges then mounted it in an open faced frame.  I also used some burlap on the background for a little added texture.

Here is another look of the second stamped image.  This one is done with black embossing powder.  So what do you think?  Stick with the Ancient Gold embossed image or use the Black one?  Let me know whatcha think!!

This was a super simple project that anybody could do and you don't have to use wood like me.  You could use chipboard, cardboard or whatever else you have on hand.  The possibilities are truly endless!

Thanks so much for stopping by today and we'd also like to send out a HUGE WARM WELCOME to our newest bloggie friends!!  Thanks so much for joining us here at the Aviary!!  Before I let you go, I'd like to remind you about some FUN things we have going on here at PWP:

  1. Gorgeous piece Norma! I think both images look fabulous! If I were you, I'd make a second frame so both the gold and black images could be displayed in your home. You could always make a crafty friend happy and give one away as a gift. Thanks for the inspiration today! =)
