Make your own gift wrap

Happy Monday Peeps!

Are you like me, wrapping presents at the last minute?  Here's a super cute gift wrap tutorial from my good friend Jill, aka Collected Mess.  Thanks Jill for the inspiration and ideas!

Things you will need to make your own small gift box and gift tag:

-the download of the box template
-cardstock or heavy scrapbook paper
-bone folder
-embossing powder or embossing tinsel in gold
-festive berries distress ink and blending tool
-Versamark or embossing ink of your choice
-a heat gun
-ink pads: Festive Berries, Shabby Shutters, black
-Picket Fence Distress Ink Pen or any other white pen
-Stickles, your choice of colors PLUS Frosted Lace
-small paintbrush or Fantastix coloring tool (or markers/pencils)
-Forest Moss Distress stain

For the box:
-Download box template. (It is two files, one top, and one bottom. All you need to do is print, no resizing needed!)
-Print out box top and bottom onto desired paper. (You can use any paper you’d like, heavy weight scrapbook paper or cardstock work best) I printed mine out onto kraft cardstock.

-Cut out. Score on all lines on both pieces. (Handy hint: if you don’t have a Score-Pal or anything like that, just use the grooves on your paper cutter. I use the blade track to score.)
-Go ahead and make the bottom of the box by cutting the dotted lines to make the tabs. Fold up all four sides and glue tabs to the inside of the box (use a little bit of tape to make it sturdier). Please note that the box top is slightly larger than its bottom; you might want to make a small mark to distinguish which is which.

Gold/Red box:

-Score the box top but leave it flat. It’s easier to emboss and color and that way you cover the entire box top with your design.
-Using the dots from the Double Dot Border clear set, stamp rows of dots across box top using the Versamark.  

-Emboss dots with gold embossing powder until you’ve covered the entire box. I found it easier to do two rows at a time.

-Once completely embossed and cool enough to color use your blending tool and cover entire box top with Distress Ink. I used Festive Berries, which contrasts nicely with the gold embossing tinsel.

-When you’ve colored your box top, go ahead and cut dotted lines, fold, and assemble. Your box is done!

The house tag:

-For the background, I used the dots and closed scallop from the Louise clear stamp set. I started with the scallop and stamped down the tag, from top to bottom, in Festive Berries. Then take the small dots border and stamp in between the scalloped rows in Shabby Shutters.

-I colored in the scallops with a Picket Fence Distress Ink pen. ( Note: the white color is going to be very light and you won’t see it until it’s dry. It’s subtle but it’s there!)
-For the embellishment, stamp the family portrait from the Birds of a Feather stamp set in black on white cardstock. Use a craft knife to cut out the center of the frame.

-Stamp the house from the Holiday Add Ons stamp set in black on white cardstock. Glue your frame down over the house, making sure the house is centered. Cut out both layers.

-To color the frame I used a little bit of Forest Moss distress stain and a Fantastix Coloring stick to color around the outside of the frame.

-Stickles time! Use Stickles in your choice of color around the inner frame. I used Stickles to embellish the house itself, but you can color it in with pens or pencils. For the snow: I just filled in the white portion under the house with a generous layer of Frosted Lace Stickles.

 -Attach to tag (once dry!) with some foam tape.

-The saying is optional – I used the saying from the Holiday Add Ons stamp set, stamping it in black on white cardstock. I ripped the edges, then brushed the edges with Shabby Shutters.
Attach tag to box with twine, ribbon, or string!

You can also do a super cute book page wrap for the same box!

What you’ll need:

-the same box top and bottom template download
-a book page or scrapbook paper of your choice
-some sort of edger: a border punch, decorative scissors, or a border die.
-two different sized ovals or circles (you can download my ovals here)
-white embossing powder
-scrapbook paper of your choice
-Festive Berries Distress Ink
-gold paint

-Cut a piece of book page or scrapbook paper of your choice at least 10.5” x 4”. I used a page from an old encyclopedia. (Note: 10.5” will wrap around the top of the box and the ends will not meet on the underside. I just taped mine on each end to make it secure.)

-Deco cut your edges. I used a border punch but you could use a pair of decorative scissors or a border die. (In my finished project picture it shows my scallops with small holes. I just used a small hole punch on each scallop for the lace effect!)

For the embellishment:

-cut the two downloadable ovals out onto paper of your choice. (You can also use two different sized circles)

-I used the deco edged scissors and cut my larger oval, then used a bit of gold paint to highlight the edges.

-For the small oval:
                -stamp alternating rows using the scallop border from the Details Framer set and the dots from the Louise Clear set using the embossing ink of your choice and white embossing powder.

                -once embossed, color your small oval with Festive Berries and your blending tool.

Layer your small oval on top of the large and center your embellishment of choice on top of those. I used the same snowy house frame!

When you are ready to wrap your gift, just wrap your book page around the box, secure on the bottom, and glue your oval(s) onto the center of the box top.

Make a paper wrap for an envelope:

-Make your envelope, if desired. You can also do this to dress up a pre-made envelope!

-Cut your strip of book page or scrapbook paper that will wrap around the entire envelope. I scalloped edged mine with a border punch.

-Stamp alternating rows: use the X’s border stamp from the Details Framer set and the open dots border from the Single Dot Border set. Emboss with white embossing powder.

-I used a blending tool to color over my embossing with Shabby Shutters and Broken China distress ink.

To use, just wrap around your envelope, secure with some tape on the back, and embellish on the front. Also another way to use that cute house frame or even a tag from the Holiday Tags set.
