Tutorial Tuesday - Chalk Art!

Hi everyone! Tara C. here with a fantastic Tutorial for your Tuesday!  First let me start by congratulating the winner of our July Blog Hop giveaway-

Beautiful projects, everyone! Definitely inspired me to try a few new techniques. Thanks everyone for the hard work and the gorgeous pieces!

Jennifer, contact Carrie at paperwingsproductions@hotmail.com for instructions on how to claim your prize.  Thanks to everyone who hopped with us!

Chalkboard Art is all the rage right now and there are lots of ways to achieve this effect.  The way I am going to show you, using colored chalk, is super simple and the results are gorgeous!

The supplies you will need are:
Dark Colored cardstock
Stamps of your choice
pigment ink pad (in a light color)
colored chalks (mine are Stampin! Up)
cotton swabs or small daubers
colored pencil (optional)

The first step is to stamp your image using the pigment ink onto your card stock.  If you have a lot of images or a very large area, I suggest stamping one image at a time and then coloring right away as you want your ink to stay wet.

Next, using your chalks and applicator, very gently apply the colors of choice to your stamped image. Once this step is complete you can tap off the excess chalk or wipe the area with a Swiffer cloth being very careful not to rub off the chalk you just applied. You can choose to stay very close to your image outline or go off onto your card stock for a smudged look.

This next step allows you to get more of the chalkboard art effect but is totally optional depending on your preference.  Using a white (or colored) pencil, draw in lines, doodles, curlicues or even handwritten words.

Here I have just drawn lines in the background and around the flower.  You can use a ruler or go freehand.

This last step is also optional but again adds to the chalkboard art effect.  Using a soft cloth (I use a paper towel) rub small amounts of white pigment ink onto and around your images.  This can be as much or as little as you would like.

There you have it!  Now you can be totally on trend and create fabulous chalk works of art!  Also, in case you were wondering, this technique works fabulously with plain white chalk for an even more authentic look!
