Mixed Media Monday - Reverse Canvas

Hi Paper Wings fans! Dana here today sharing a reverse canvas that I created with the November Nesting Components Mixed Media Kit and some of my favorite products available from the Paper Wings Productions Store.

I had a lot of fun putting this piece together! The small open area in the back of the canvas was the perfect resting spot for my nest full of glittery eggs.

I backed the small space with a piece of Prima patterned paper from the kit. I cut a store-bought nest in half and tucked pieces of colorful moss and the beautiful stamped ribbon from the kit around the base. I highlighted the front of the nest with white acrylic paint for a shabby feel.

I painted a fabric bird white and then added color with Faber-Castell Gelatos. I then stamped over the bird with the script stamp from the Writing Backgrounds Cling Stamp Set. I embellished the bird with a wooden feather and buttons from the kit. I also colored the fabric flower from the kit with Faber-Castell Gelatos.

I used the same script stamp randomly around the patterned paper border of the canvas. I cut a portion of the top piece of the Blue Fern Studios Shabby Layered Frame to fit around the window in the canvas. I covered the chipboard with a light coat of white acrylic paint, Lindy's Stamp Gang Madonna Blue Robe Two-Toned Embossing Powder and Faber-Castell Gelatos.

I kept the back of the canvas simple and just spread molding paste over the Prima Stencil from the kit.

  1. Beautiful canvas, Dana. I keep forgetting that the backs of the framed canvas' can turn out just as beautiful as the fronts, if you want them to. Thanks for the wonderful inspiration.
