Happy Mixed Media Monday!! Norma here with you today to share my art journaling featuring lots of great PWP stamps and all different types mediums. Mixed media art journaling is a really fun way of learning through play. So if you're afraid of dabbling in mixed media, don't be. There are no rules, you can mix any type of medium and element that you'd like. You could use paint, ink, crayons, pens, markers, recycled materials, ephemera and of course stamps.
I used a wide variety of materials on this page such as acrylic paint, oil pastels, india ink, clip art, stamps, pens, chipboard and twine.
I began with this page. It already had the acrylic painted background with India ink splatters, oil pastel circles and paint splatters.
So I used the Art Textures stamps to highlight the circles. I stamped them in black and then again with white. I also added the smaller grouped circles and the Paris postcard stamp from the Royal Melange stamp set.
I wanted to add some clip art but I still wanted the background to show through so I decided to add it using a transfer technique. Now there are lots of great transfer techniques out there but I like using Gel Medium. For this technique, you want to apply a generous layer of gel medium to your image then place it face down where you want to transfer the image. Next, give it a good rub with a bone folder or whatever else you have on hand. The idea is to burnish the image to ensure contact.
Let it sit for a couple of minutes then begin to peel off the paper. The image I had was on heavy paper so I had to gently rub it off. When it became too dry, I spritzed it with water to help dissolve the paper.
Here is a closer look at the transferred image.
I decided to use the fairy from the Vintage Creative New Year clip art sheet. To ground her, I added a twine tight rope. She has wonderful balance don't you think, lol.
All fairies need sparkle so I added Stickles to her wings and headdress. The sentiment I used can be found on the World cling stamp set.
I used the Royal Melange stamp set to add depth to the background. I also added painted and stamped chipboard chains to finish of my page. I hope I've inspired you to use your stamps in a mixed media project. If you're interested in picking up the Royal Melange stamp set that I used, this month is the perfect time to do it because it's on sale!
