Tutorial Tuesday: Mixed Media Assemblage

*****To join our June Challenge: Chipboard and/or Wood Veneers, CLICK HERE*****

Hello PWP fans, Norma here with you today!  Big thanks to everyone who joined us over the weekend for our June Blog Hop and Giveaway.  So before I get started, I know you all are anxiously awaiting the winner announcement for that wonderful Faber-Castell prize pack so without further ado:

I loved all of the beautiful projects that your design team has created and shared. Awesome inspiration!!

Karen, please contact us at paperwingsproductions@hotmail.com

Today I have mixed media assemblage project to share with you.  These types of projects are some of my very favorite to create so I wanna show you how easy it is to create.

I'm working on matte board to give my project strength but you could use chipboard or heavy weight paper.  I stamped the Muertos Mujer first then placed a mask over her before stamping the Muertos Hombre.  I wanted it to look like they were very close.

I colored them in with Stickles and color pencils.

I added a wash of color to the background with gelatos and a water brush.

Then I just glued the matte board to a small flea market frame.

I chose to use Diana, she's one of my favorite PWP stamps.  I used Prismacolor pencils to color her.  She's also stamped onto matte board.

I wanted to give her beautiful shimmery wings.  These butterfly wings are from the Wings stamp set.  I stamped them with blue ink and then embossed them with Antique Gold embossing powder.

I'm using a canvas covered chipboard heart for my backdrop.  I sprayed it with red Dylusions inks then stamped the large flourish from the Vintage Domino stamp set.  I punched wholes on each side and added eyelets.

Assemblage time!!  I added her wings, an embossed crown from the Crowns clear stamp set, roses from my jewelry stash and then attached Diana to the frame.

I also added a little bling to Diana's crown.

The banner and sentiment are both from A Banner Day.  Using hot glue, I framed the edges with bling trim.  It's those kind of finishing touches that make all the difference.

I added sheer black ribbon and flowers from my stash.

The bottom was looking a little bare so I added a piece of a bracelet.  The bracelet was a failed resin attempt but nothing goes to waste around here. lol.  For this piece it really doesn't matter that the bezels are full of little bubbles.

I'm so pleased with the way this project turned out!!  It was pretty easy right?!  I hoped I inspired you to give mixed media assemblage a try and if you mix in some chipboard or wood veneers, you can enter it in this month's challenge.

Thank you for joining me today, have a beautiful day!!!

What's Up Wednesday

Hey Paper Wings fans!  Erica here with you today for this weeks What's Up Wednesday!

I have not used my distress inks in a long time so I thought it was a good time to break them out!  I was really inspired by the 12 tags of 2014-June by Tim Holtz.  I love his techniques and products and I am always so inspired by his work!  I used the technique he shares here on my tag.  Once my background was complete I pulled out one of the Ranger tags that came in the Paper Wings Productions March 2014 Nesting Components Kit.  I adhered my watercolor paper to the tag and then distressed the edges with my distress tool and some distress ink.  I wanted to add something fun to the tag since the colors on my background reminded me of fun so I pulled out the Hey Cupcake stamp set.  I stamped the cupcake out onto watercolor paper and colored in the wrapper and cake part of the image using my pearlescent watercolors that also came in the March 2014 Nesting Components kit.  I used distress ink to color the frosting of the cupcake by smearing the ink pad onto a clear stamp block and using my water brush to pick up the color and add to my image.  For the cake stand I stamped the image onto some vellum cardstock and then heat embossed it with some white embossing powder!  I love how it turned out and to finish off my tag I used two of the mini canvas banner pieces that came in the May 2014 Nesting Components kit.  I sprayed them with my favorite color of Lindy's Stamp Gang sprays and stamped out "Hey There Cupcake" from the Hey Cupcake stamp set.  I tied a bow at the top of my tag with the hand dyed ribbon and then added one more sentiment to my tag using the same stamp set.

Thanks so much for joining me today and I hope you enjoyed my tag!  Our June Challenge is now live and we hope you will be linking up this month!  The challenge this month is to use chipboard or wood veneer on your projects and you may enter up to 3 times!  Please remember to like us on Facebook and follow our blog to stay up to date on sales and events!  Enjoy your day and remember to let your creativity take flight.

Believe in Magic - Fairy Tag

Happy Monday everyone, Norma here with you today!  I hope you all had a wonderful weekend.  Did you see the gorgeous NEW Nesting Components kit released yesterday?!  If you love birds then this kit is for you, take a look:

Isn't that beautiful AND it includes one of my very favorite supplies, molding paste.  You also get your choice of the bird panel stamp sets.  BUT WAIT, there is MORE!!   The NEW June stamp and Stamp of the Month have been released.  Here is the link to find out more:  BIRDS.

Okay so now for my project :D Today I have a fun mixed media tag to share you, let's get started.

I began with one of my favorite stamps, the beautiful Fringe Lace stamp.  I achieve this look by stamping and then using a mask over the first stamped image.

Next is another favorite: molding paste.  I love adding texture with molding paste!  Here I'm using it with a stencil.

For subtle color I opted for several shades of Lindy's inks and Distress ink.

I'm using an image from the summer clipart sheet and I added chipboard butterfly wings.

I cut the butterfly in half and then embossed them to add shimmer.

Next I added a handmade flower.  To make a flower like this, punch a circle for the base then wrap trim starting at an edge working your way to the center.  I used white trim and dyed it Lindy's inks.

The sentiment is from the beautiful Dragonfly Fairy stamp set.

Here's a closer look at the gorgeous Fringe Lace.

Thanks so much for joining me today, have a beautiful day!!
