Mixed Media Monday with Norma G

Here's another great mixed media canvas from Norma G!

Hi there!
Today I want to show you how to use multiple stamps to create a large piece of art.  For this project I'm using a 9x12 canvas and LOTS of PWP stamps.

My inspiration for this piece was the PWP Earth & Sky stamp set.

I wanted to give my background an earthy feel so I began by applying a layer of old gesso.  It was all lumpy and ugly but I was determined to use it anyway so I added some water to loosen it up.  I used a pallet knife to spread it over the canvas and let it cure overnight.  The lumpiness worked beautifully to create the perfect texture.  Next I applied Liquitex Soft Body Acrylics in Cerulean Blue, Vivid Lime Green, Cadmium Yellow and Unbleached Titanium.  Once my paint was dry, I cut a strip of joint tape in half and used it as a mask with Dylusion Vibrant Turquoise.  I randomly stamped the earth and clouds with black Stazon.  You can find these stamps in the PWP Earth & Sky , Cloudy Cling Stamp Set & World Cling Stamp.

Once my background was complete I began working on the tag.  I used a #8 size manila tag by Ranger.  The first thing I did was use gesso to resist the inks.   I chose to use the borders in the new PWP Build A Shrine Stamp Set and an angel from the new PWP Angels Cling Stamp Set.  To color the tag I used Dylusions Ink Sprays in Vibrant Turquoise and Fresh Lime.  I also mixed in a little Tim Holtz Vintage Photo Distress Ink.  Finally I stamped two of the flourishes from the PWP Flourish Elements Cling Stamp around the edges with Timber Brown Stazon.

Moving onto the sentiment, I placed the quote between the two split horizon stamps, embossed and colored the same way as the tag.  You can find these stamps in both the PWP Earth & Sky and PWP Sunrise Cling Stamp Set.  I stamped/embossed the quote again on a scrap piece of cream colored cardstock, inked the edges and stamped flourishes around all of the edges of both pieces.  For added dimension, I attached the sentiment with pop dots.

To add a little softness, I attached cream glittered tulle.

To build my collage, I first attached a piece of cardboard.  I peeled pieces of the top layer off to expose the corrugation, inked and painted to match the background.  I stamped the angel from the PWP Angels Cling Stamp Set again, fussy cut her out and inked the edges.

I doodled around the tag with a white gel pen then attached it to the cardboard.  I also added scraps of fabric, ribbon, twine and a cross charm to the tag.

This little angel is from the new PWP Angels Cling Stamp Set.  She's attached with pop dots.

Here's a closer look at all of the texture in the background and all of the little details.  For the final finishing touches, I decided to stamp two more of the borders from the PWP Build A Shrine Stamp Set along the left edge and added some twine.

I was really inspired by all of the new PWP stamps and I hope you are too.  Thanks so much for stopping by today.  We appreciate all of your comments so keep them coming!

Have a Beautiful Day!!

Halloween Greetings from Norma G

Hey there goblins & ghouls, Norma G here!!
Are you ready for all of the Halloween festivities?!  I know I am, I can't wait to show everyone one our costumes.  My hubby's is funny and mine is spooky but they go together like peanut butter and jelly, lol.  Since I've been working on our costumes this week I'm definitely in a Halloween mood so today I have a Spooktacular PWP card to share with you.

To make this card you're gonna need:
Black & Cream Cardstock
Exacto knife & White Gel Pen
Cuttlebug & The Fanciful Labels Plus Embossing Folder
Gesso & Black Stazon Ink
Tim Holtz Distress Inks: Black Soot, Walnut Stain, Vintage Photo & Spiced Marmalade
Black Embossing Powder & Black Bling

It's that cool, let's get started putting this baby together!

I folded a piece of 12x12 cardstock then trimmed it down to 6 1/2 x 4 1/2 for my card base.  Then I cut a small piece of cardstock, stamped the Time Has Come stamp repeatedly to create a patterned paper and distressed the edges with Vintage Photo.

I used the postcard stamp from the Writings Backgrounds set with some gesso and just stamped it all over on both the front and back of the card.  I also inked all of the edges with Walnut stain.

I used the Build A Shrine set for this part.  I stamped the images on cream cardstock then used used Spiced Marmalade to color it in.

I cut around the edges and slit the inner border with an Exacto knife to insert the other paper.

You can find the skeleton lady in both the Skeleton Melange and Skeletons sets.  I stamped both images with Black Soot and embossed, fussy cut around the Circle Frame and inked with Walnut Stain (I love inking, lol).

Time for layering!!  The 31st tag is from my stash (sorry can't remember who made it) and I inked it up with Spiced Marmalade & Walnut Stain.  I used Pop Dots on the Circle Frame and the shrine.  For the final touch I added some black bling flourishes by Recollections.

Moving on to the inside of my card, I used my Cuttlebug with the Fanciful Labels Plus Embossing Folder and inked with Walnut Stain.

The sentiment I used can be found on either Witchy Greetings or Witchy Halloween.  Finally I doodled around the edges with a white gel pen and that's it finito!!

Here's one last look at the finished card:

Thanks for joining us today!!

Have a fun, but above all else SAFE Halloween!!!

Mixed Media Mondy - Norma G Frida Canvas

Happy Monday Peeps!

Big news!!!  ALL of the stamp sets are now on the new website!  We still need to add descriptions and sizes, but at least they are all there!  Yippee!  Go shop!

For our Mixed Media Monday post today we have another FABULOUS project from Norma G using some of our new stamps and one of our older favorite stamp sets.

Enjoy!

Hi there friends, Norma G. here!!
I'm excited to share my latest project with you today!  Here's a little look-see but you're gonna have to come along with me through my creative journey to see the end result ;D

Isn't Frida beautiful, she is on the PWP Muertos Stamp Set.  When I first saw this stamp, I knew I wanted to do something that was shrine like so with that vision in mind I began......

I started out with an 8x8 canvas and covered the edges with Golden Fluid Acrylic in Raw Umber.  I applied it to the canvas with a baby wipe, using a circular motion.

Next I applied a light layer of Cobalt Teal fluid acrylic using a 1" flat brush.

Once the background was dry, I painted the flourishes with a #6 round brush and Liquitex Soft Body Acrylics in Vivid Lime Green and Cadmium Yellow Medium Hue.

To push the flourishes into the background, I applied a white wash to the entire canvas.  With my background complete, I turned my focus to Frida!

I stamped her on a piece of canvas using Stazon, and then colored her in with layers of Primacolor pencils, acrylic paint and gouache until I was happy.  I found the beautiful little frame at a local flea market; all I did was apply a wash of raw umber to antique it a bit.  Next, I turned my attention back to the canvas and things got a little crazy, lol.

I've wanted to try this technique for awhile but I was definitely nervous about cutting into my canvas.  I really didn't know how it was going to turn out but I thought, nothing ventured nothing gained right and went for it!

So to fill the gaping hole in my canvas, I cut a canvas board down to size using my straight edge as a guide.

Now for some contrast!  I randomly applied Golden Fluid Acrylics in Quinacridone Magenta and Primary Magenta along with Liquitex Soft Body Acrylic in beautiful Iridescent Rich Copper.  While that dried, I went back to stamping :D

I knew I wanted to use Frida's quote "Feet, What Do I Need You for When I Have Wings to Fly" so I stamped three sets of wings from the PWP Wings Stamp Set.  I also drew three hearts on book text and colored them in with oil pastels.  I colored in the wings with Adirondack markers and fussy cut the wings and hearts; then glued them together.

This beautiful angel is from the new PWP Angels Stamp Set.  With all my elements ready, I began working on my composition.

I adhered the canvas board to the back of my canvas using Beacon 3-1.

Here is a closer look at one of the winged hearts.  The sentiment I used is on both the Artsy to the Bone Set and the Skeleton Melange Set and I stamped it on a strip of canvas.  To finish it off I added a little rose by Paper Studio.

This one is the smallest of the three hearts.

The red rose and black bling are by Recollections.

Here is the finished piece!  I hand wrote the quote using India ink.
I'm very happy with the way this canvas turned out because I stepped out of my comfort zone and followed my vision for the piece.  So whenever you have your stamps out and wanna try something a little crazy, JUST GO FOR IT, remember it's all about having fun :D

Thanks so much for stopping by today, I hope you have a beautiful day full of inspiration!!

Feature Friday Mermaid Collage with Norma G

Hey Hey Friends, Norma G. here!
Can you believe summer is already over!  It seems like it just flew by doesn't it.....well this project is kind of my farewell to the warm days of summer :D

This is a 5x5 mixed media canvas featuring stamps from the PWP Sea Mélange Set and PWP Kind Words Set.

I started on my background by applying a generous layer of Golden Crackle Paste Medium with a palette knife and blending blue acrylic paint right into the paste.  Next I randomly sprinkled Duo Blue-Green and Micropearl Pearl Ex Pigments for a little shimmer.  I wanted to create the feel of the ocean and create a sense of movement in my background.

Once the paste dried for a few hours, I had this beautiful background full of texture and interest.  I love how the light dances off of the shimmering Pearl Ex Pigments.

For my focal image, I chose to use the gorgeous mermaid in the Sea Mélange set.  I stamped her twice on white cardstock and I trimmed one of scrap pieces down to 2" x 3".  I set the other aside for later.  Next I stamped and embossed the edges with the floral border in the Kind Words set.

To color in my background I used a combination of London Blue Dylusions Ink and Walnut Stain Distress Ink.

I colored in the second mermaid with Prismacolor pencils.  Then I carefully fussy cut and layered her onto the other mermaid.

I used a punch to round my edges and then mounted her to a scrap piece of white cardstock from my stash.  Next I stamped two of the fish from the Sea Mélange set with Gesso to complete my scene.

I used Stazon to stamp the sentiment from Sea Mélange and cut it into strips.  I inked all of the edges with Walnut Stain Distress Ink.  I like cutting my sentiments into strips because it gives me greater flexibility with placement.  It also allows the background to peak out behind the strips.

To finish off my canvas I used K&Company cardstock and acetate die-cuts from their Tim Coffey line as well as a Grand Adhesions dimensional sticker from the same line.

And there you have it, a quick and easy mixed media canvas!  I hope you'll pull out your stamps and have some fun :D  We'd love to see your creations!!  So be sure to stop by the Paper Wings  Flickr Gallery and upload your beautiful projects.

Before I go, here is a complete list of the supplies I used on this project:
