Technique Tuesday: Iron-Off Embossing with Watercolor

Hello! It's Kristie Larsen here... I'm excited to be joining you for my first blog post as a guest designer for Paper Wings Productions!

Today I wanted to show you a fun technique that I love to use: Iron-Off Embossing with water-colour. I used this technique for my CAS card above, but I will show you step by step how to make it work for you whether you like scrapbooking, ATC, journal art or card making. This technique is fun regardless!

You want to start with a few supplies right at your fingertips. You will need some Versamark ink, clear embossing powder, an embossing gun and your regular ol' clothes iron (without water) and of course water-colour paper! You also need your Paper Wings Productions stamp of choice.  I chose to use the gorgeous Tile  Pattern clear stamp.  Mmmmm, how I love it ; )

Now let me tell you why I love this stamp.... one word: Versatile, with a capital V! I  love its size because you can use it perfectly on an A2 size panel and it creates a perfect frame around it. Or you can cover small spaces or continuously stamp big spaces. There's not a place where you can't use it. It's just perfect!

Step 1:  Trim a piece of water-colour paper to standard A2 size. Stamp image with Versamark ink and heat emboss with clear embossing powder.

Step 2: Secure your embossed paper onto your table (I used washi tape... it's so pretty!). Be sure to secure the edges so the water doesn't warp it too much. Because of the nature of the stamp I chose, I also masked off the edges of the images so no colour would get into my 'white frame' around the stamp.

Step3. Now watercolor to your hearts content! Here I used 3 shades of Peerless Watercolor to create an ombre effect.  I'm impatient so I dry it quick with a heat gun.

Step 4:  Cover your dried stamped image with a scratch piece of type paper. Using your iron set on med-high, iron over the scratch paper. It will melt the embossing powder underneath and lift off the stamped image leaving only the water-colour.

You can tell you have it all off if you bend it in the light and all the shiny embossing is gone. What is revealed is a gorgeous watercolored image and no glossy powder.  I love the effect! It's so stunning but not too shiny.

Step 5: Finish off your project! I trimmed my panel down a bit more and popped it up on a card base. I love the look of white on white! I then used some die cuts to create my sentiment and adhered it over the top of my ironed-off image. And my new card was born!

You can also use your favourite Paper Wings Productions stamps to make an amazing background on any size piece of paper. Below I made another card, but since I used single images, it would be easy to adapt it to a bigger scrap page or even custom stamped paper for an altered item! I used more of my favourite stamps (can you have too many favourites?!) These are all images from  Vintage Technology.

After stamping and embossing my images I made a pretty mess with three different water colours. I ironed off my powder and then used the panel as a starting off point for a more elaborate look. I used the Solid Whimsical Alphabet set to stamp in grey ink along the centre diagonal of the panel and then used the Sacred Geometry  set for some circular designs along the top right corner.  If you look really really closely you can see I used the Tile Pattern stamp again in a pale blue along the bottom lefthand corner. I wanted to do the exact opposite of my first card and get some real layering going!

I used some stencils and some water spritz to lay over another ink layer on top. I fussy cut and watercolored another camera image from Vintage Technology and added a sentiment from it on the bottom right of my card. I trimmed my panel and justified it down to the bottom right hand corner leaving a trim of white card base peeking out on the left/top side.

See how great?! One technique that can be used in so many ways that the possibilities are endless! It is so much fun to do this technique because you get really inky and can spend an entire evening in stamping bliss! Ironing has never been so much fun. Trust me!

Thanks so much for joining me. I hope today brings you a breeze of inspiration from an unexpected place. Keep you're eyes open!

xoxo

Scrapbook Saturday- Text Background

*****To join our March Challenge: CELEBRATE, CLICK HERE*****

Hello everyone! It's Amber here with a layout to share for this weeks Scrapbook Saturday Post. I started with a white12x12 piece of cardstock for my background, two sheets of pattered paper, two black borders, some white alphabet stickers, and Paper Wings Productions Text Cling Stamp Set. If your a fan of the blog then you know I use this stamp set a lot to create backgrounds. It's so fun to create your own one of a kind background. The Paper Wings Productions Shop has a few different stamps sets like the Text Cling Stamp Set that are great for creating backgrounds. You can check them out HERE. A few weeks ago Erica shared how she created a fun background for her 12x12 layout using the Art Textures Cling Stamp, you can check it out HERE.

Below you can see a close up of how I used two different stamps from the set. I used one of the large text stamps and the small postage stamp. I stamped the text in black and the little postage stamp in a juniper color. As you can see some of the text is lighter then some of the other text, that's because I used a second generation stamp technique. It's a pretty simple technique you just ink up your stamp set then stamp it onto your cardstock and then stamp it again with out re-inking your stamp.

Thanks for visiting today and don't forget we would love to see what you make with Paper Wings Productions Stamps so add your projects to our Flickr Group, to Pinterest, or leave a comment with a link to your project. You can also check out our Facebook Page and You Tube Page for daily inspiration.

Mixed Media Mondays:Spread your wings Bottle frame

Hello my dear friends and welcome to our Mixed Media Monday
Irit is here today and this time with another Mixed Media project.
My project this time is an altered chipboard Bottle frame from Tando creative, but then it is full of our gorgeous PWP stamps, cut image and all possible mediums too.

It's an easy project to make even for not experienced MM crafter: all the work is done over the solid cream cardstock and  then embellished over the frame.
The cardstock is cut to the basic chipboard shape and then I added a few parts of one single stencil (TCW)  with gesso only. I made it pretty much around the frame as I wanted to leave space for the cut out  image  and for some stamping too.

I used  Build a Shrine set of  stamps- the upper one with an angel  and a part of the Celtic knot here and there. Then I added a few splashed of Textures  stamps and then, as it happens with  frames, the Angel was suddenly all covered. So we need to be creative and I just added it over the frame and over the heat embossed with red powder heart. All inside of the frame was misted with a mix of Nantucket mists set ;
so was the cut out Angel head.

The girl from Summer clip art sheet was hand cut and glued  over the background.
Then I stamped a pair of wings from Wings set over vellum and heat embossed with gold embossing glitter. The cut out wings were glued over the  image back and now she became an angel too.

Anything else was just embellishing: golden leave, vintage flowers, some pearls, a bit of lace and the cap, heat embossed with the same glitter as my wings.

This is a lovely vintage piece that can be a great gift to a teen girl who adores fairies and angels, pearls, flowers and golds.

Tutorial Tuesday - Altered Box

Hi everyone! Dana here with a fun tutorial for your Tuesday!  First I want to congratulate the winner of the blog hop.

Thank you for the blog hop and all the wonderful designs! Lots of inspiration!

Ellen R, contact Carrie at paperwingsproductions@hotmail.com for instructions on how to claim your prize!

I've wanted to alter this decorative box for some time now. I loved the blue cover, but wanted to change the Christmas theme to something that will be able to sit out year round. The vintage themed August Nesting Components Mixed Media Kit is much more my style! The mix of travel ephemera and clip art helped transform my box into a fun catchall for items that I collection on journeys both near and far!

I used the large piece of alphabet print wrapping paper from the kit to cover the front, side and back of my box. I wanted to play up the aged look to the box so I tore the wrapping paper to fit each side of my box and inked the edges of the paper before sealing it in place. My box measures approximately 8" x 11" and I used less than 1/3 of the wrapping paper from my kit. If you're looking to alter a large piece, this wrapping paper has a lot of possibilities!

I added several layers of printed paper that I cut from the patterned envelopes in the kit and one of the clip art images to the top of my box.

I used the Circles Background Stamp in several areas.

I added another patterned layer with the Mr. Huey's Chevron Stencil and some acrylic paint.

This text is from the package of Tim Holtz Remnant Rubs, which contains 2 sheets of fun rub-ons in a variety of fonts and sizes.

I added a fun double loop bow of vintage rayon ribbon to the top of my box and topped it with a handmade crochet rose that was gifted to me by fellow Flight Attendant Cathi.

I decided to embellish the side of the box as well! I cut the center from a doily and used that as the base of my embellishment. I topped that with some charms from my stash and a bow made from the vintage lace from the kit.

I finished my box with some fussy cut butterflies, several strips of adhesive pearls (included in the kit) and some more stamping with some of my favorite PWP stamps, Art Textures and Writings Background.

Thanks for stopping by today! I hope I have inspired you. If you'd like to purchase the August Nesting Components Mixed Media Kit, stop by the Paper Wings Productions Store and pick one up while supplies last!

Smile Hello

Hello everyone, it's Amber here with this weeks Feature Friday Post. Today is also my last day and final day with Paper Wings Productions. Over the last six months I have a great time with the ladies and like Tara have found loads of inspiration, been amazed by, and have been inspired by all their skills. The last six months have been wonderful and I wish the best of luck to the new DT members!

For this weeks Feature Friday post I wanted to create some one layer cards using Paper Wings Productions  Vintage Technology Clear Stamp Set. Technically their not really one layer cards because of the banner I added but their pretty close. I used four different stamps from the set and used the same layout for both. For the fist card I repeatedly stamped Hello in three different colors across the bottom and then repeatably stamped Hello for my banner. The second card I have today uses the same stamp set and CTMH Ink pads. I repeatably stamped the little tape cassette across the bottom like I did Hello on the first card and then repeatedly stamped Smile for my banner.

We would love to see what you make with Paper Wings Productions Stamps so add your projects to our Flickr Group, Pinterest, Facebook, or leave a comment with a link to your project. Thanks for visiting!
