Cutest Little Baby Face

Welcome!!!  Norma here with you today.  How's the new year treating so far?!  I hope you're staying nice and warm.  Okay so today I'm sharing a layout of my sweet little grand daughter.  We were blessed to have the whole family over and both of our older sons stayed over night so I was able to get lots of greats pics.   This pic is one of my favs.  I think she looks so stinkin cute!!

It's been really nice to FINALLY be able to do pretty little girl layouts!  Alright, let's get down to business, lol.  By now you know that I don't like to waste anything right.  So this layout is mostly made up of my Jan hop project scraps.  The background is cream colored cardstock that I used to spray the frame I made with the Lindy's Sidekicks.  The patterned papers were also hop project leftovers that I simply layers behind my photo.

I wanted to pull out the blue from her jammies so I used Cyan Colobox ink.  The stamp I used is from the Bird Lyrics set and it actually has the sentiment "Home is wherever I'm with you" but I only wanted the birds so I only inked that part of the stamp.

Whenever I create, I like to balance my colors around my composition to keep the eye moving.  So I used the same blue to create journaling lines and to frame my layout.  The stamps I used are from the Line Borders set, it comes with two different types of lines.

To help ground my photo, I stacked two of the Cosmo Cricket wooden pieces.  I made sure to line up the rain drops where the two pieces overlap.

To balance the visual weight of the wooden pieces, I added beautiful hanging pom pom flowers from the Happy Day stamp set.  I also added lace and polka dotted ribbon swagged across the top of the layout.

To finish off my layout, I added a little doodling and a chipboard sentiment  "You've got the Cutest little baby face".  Easy peasy and I used up some of the scraps from my Jan hop project, so no waste ;D  All of the beautiful patterned papers, wooden pieces and mist came from the Jan Nesting Components kit.

To pick up a kit, visit the online store.  Today Carrie and I are out at the Grapevine Rubber Stamp & Paper Arts Festival so if you're in the DFW area, we'd love for you to stop by our booth.  Carrie is working the shop and I'm hosting the make & takes!!  So come out and say hi :D

Thanks for joining me, have a wonderful weekend and I hope to see you at the show!!

You Are Special

Hi everyone and Welcome to Mixed Media Monday!!

Norma here and today I'm working with the Sept. Nesting Components kit along with the NEW Dragonfly Fairy and Fringe Lace stamp set.

I found these great canvas mini albums on clearance at Michaels the other day and each page was actually covered with canvas.  So the way this project started out is while I was working on another project that required spray ink, I ended up with a lot of extra ink.  You know in the box that I was spraying in, so I grabbed one of the album pages to soak up all that extra Lindy's ink.  See, nothing goes to waste around here, lol.

Next I stamped the NEW Fringe Lace stamp along the bottom just to add another layer of subtle detail to my design.

Now going back to not wasting anything, I used the Prima packaging from the Sept kit on my background.  Then I layered the beautiful Prima flowers and some of the feathers on the Sept kit's clip art sheet.  My Dragonfly Fairy was stamped on white cardstock, fussy cut and colored with Prismacolor pencils.  I also added a second layer of Stickles covered vellum wings to the dragonfly.  I worked in the floral spray from the owl panel set and the sentiment is from the Dragonfly Fairy set.

I split the velvet rick rack in half and created a bow using both halves.  Then I tucked in an old key and with that I was done!!  I've actually been able to create four Autumn themed projects with this month's Nesting Components kit

So have you picked up your kit yet?!  This is a great kit and there are so many beautiful PWP stamps that you incorporate into your Autumn themed projects.  If you haven't visited the online store lately, then I encourage you do so.  My talented design team sisters have been creating their own magic with this kit too, take a look!

Check out the wonderful custom candle tutorial that Cathi shared HERE and her gorgeous layout HERE.

Last but certainly not least, Dana dazzled us with these two stunning creations.  For Dana's fusible webbing tutorial click HERE and for her beautiful banner click HERE.

Thanks so much for spending a little bit of your day with us!!  I hope we've inspired you to start creating your own autumn masterpieces with this month's kit!!  Have a Beautiful Day!!!

I Must Be A Mermaid - Mixed Media Monday

Hello PWP Peeps, Norma here with you today for Mixed Media Monday!!

I thought I'd have a little more fun with this month's Nesting Components kit so I created this gorgeous (if I do say so myself, lol) canvas.

To create this 9x12 canvas, I used a sheet of palette paper, the July Nesting Components kit, Sea Melange stamp set, fabric remnants and the newly released Be Not Afraid stamp set.

The Sea Melange set can also be purchased in smaller sets just like the Seaside stamp set that is included in the July Nesting Components kit.  These sets can easily be found on the new website by simply shopping by theme and clicking on Oceans and Mermaids.

I started out by adhering this beautifully stained sheet of palette paper.  This page is just layers and layers of paint, inks and Pearl-Ex from various projects.  So don't throw those sheets away, they can be used in your next masterpiece and half of the work has already been done for you.  I glued it down using Golden Heavy Duty Matte Medium.  You could you regular matte medium, modge podge or your favorite adhesive.  Next I applied a light layer of modge podge on top to seal in all those beautiful colors.

I randomly stamped some fish and a mermaid to the background for even more texture and background interest.

I'm all about upcycling materials so when I was ready to begin layering, I grabbed my scrap bin and found more produce netting.  Next I used a linen napkin that I picked up at an estate sale and stamped the sentiment from the Sea Cling Stamp set.  The quote says:
She stood in the storm and when the wind did not blow her away, she adjusted her sails.
Then on top of that went the Luxe Circles from the July kit.

I used the the beautiful little girl from the July kit's clip art sheet and matted the image with cream colored burlap.  I also inked the edges of the clip art with Tim Holtz Vintage Photo distress ink.

Since you can never have too much texture, I used a torn piece of muslin for the sentiment.  This wonderful sentiment is part of the newly released stamps.  It says:
I must be a mermaid, I have no fear of depths and a great fear of shallow living.
Great sentiment right?!

I rubbed some of the rubons from the July kit here and there.

Then to finish things off, I added some of the gorgeous hand dyed trim, some more burlap and a couple of Recollections roses.

THANKS so much for joining me today, I hope I've inspired you to upcycle some items that you might not have not thought of using in your projects before.

HAVE A BEAUTIFUL DAY & HAPPY CREATING!!

Enjoy the Journey

Happy Mixed Media Monday to ya, Norma here with you today!!

I really love painting so I decided to take the beautiful new June Nesting Components kit and paint it up!!

This is an 11" x 14" canvas and everything on it came from my Nesting Components kit except for the canvas, paints and oil pastels.

I started out by adhering several sheets of the Hope Chest papers then I drew the outline of my focal image.

With the base done, I turned my focus to building up texture with paints, inks and oil pastels.  When working on a project like this, keep in mind that there are no rules.  The amount of layers you apply is totally up to you, so add a much or as little as you'd like.

I used a few of the paper goods tags for added texture and drew the flowers on with oil pastels.

I had a little transfer fun with one of the clip are images.

These sweet little family of birds needed somewhere to perch :D

Oh and the star of my piece!!  Her hat and dress are paper pieced with more of the Hope Chest sheets.  I also used the stamps for more texture.

Even the sides got a little PWP stamping love!!

Thank you so much for joining me today and remember to
"Enjoy the Journey"!!
