Mixed Media Canvas

I hope Christmas has passed with a lot of joy and as much ease and free time as possible. Today I´m showing you a Mixed Media Canvas that was a Christmas Gift for my best friend Annica.

I used different Paper Wings stamps on top of my background that I buildt up with gesso & spray inks. The Vintage Cuties fits so well on this project.

Tutorial Tuesday - Colorful Embossed Party Invitations

Hi Paper Wings fans! Dana here with you today sharing a colorful party invitation set. With the holiday season fast approaching, I've been thinking a lot about dinner parties, new recipes and spending time with family and friends. I also thought it would be fun to make my own fun and funky party invitation set.

I've been missing the lovey ladies from the Women Melange Cling Stamp Set. I selected Diana for my party invites. (Paper Wings offers a fantastic selection of People Stamps if you have something else in mind.) I selected a nice palette of bright embossing powders for a fresh Warhol-esque design.

I started by embossing Diana in four different colors on pieces of white cardstock measuring 3 x 3.5 inches, which is slightly larger than the stamped image.

I then cut each Diana image into four equal pieces and rearranged them to create four colorful portraits.

I mounted each portrait onto a piece of colored cardstock.

I finished the invitation set by adding a chipboard speech bubble, that I stamped rsvp onto with the Holiday Mix It Up Clear Stamp Set, to each card. There is plenty of room for the party details on the back of the card.

Tutorial Tuesday - Faux Paper Casting

Happy Tuesday! Dana here today sharing a fun technique for Tutorial Tuesday. Those of you who hopped along with us over the weekend saw my butterfly wing charm that I created from facial tissue and the Butterfly Wings Cling Stamp Set.

Creating faux paper castings using facial tissue and rubber stamps is an inexpensive alternative to true paper casting, which can take days of work and also be quite costly. With a few simple steps you can create beautiful lightweight embellishments for your craft projects!

Supplies:
* Facial Tissues, Toilet Tissue, Tissue Paper, Napkins or Paper Towel
* Paintbrush
* Rubber Stamp
* Spray Bottle of Water
* Ink

Step One: Place your stamp rubber side up on your work surface and apply ink to the stamp face. Cover the stamp with a sheet of tissue, mist lightly with water, and use a paintbrush to press the tissue down into all the areas of the stamp using an up and down motion. Note: If you choose to use facial tissue, make sure that the tissue does not contain lotion or aloe, as the layers will not hold together and you may not yield a complete image.

 

Step Two: Continue building layers by adding more tissue, misting with water and tapping down the tissue with the paintbrush. Four to six layers of tissue should give your paper casting enough strength.

Step Three: Carefully lift the tissue from the stamp and set aside to dry.

Step Four: Cut or tear the excess tissue from the design. Color as desired.

Step Five: Add your paper embellishment to your project.

I used the Background Writings Cling Stamp Set to make the postcard paper piece and the Holiday Mix It Up Clear Stamp Set for the sentiment.

Tutorial Tuesday - Stamp Kissing

Hi!  I hope you are all having a terrific Tuesday! Dana here today sharing a fun technique called stamp kissing, which is a great way to add some personal flair to stamped images. I used this technique in two different ways, to remove a pattern on a textured stamp and to add a pattern to a solid stamp, on a masculine card I created for my husband.

 

I started with the Howlin' For You Cling Stamp. The first thing I thought of when I saw these trees was that a set of initials in one of the tree trunks would be a great way to personalize this stamp.

I began by applying ink to the textured tree stamp.

I found a solid heart shape that fit inside the largest tree perfectly in the Handmade Clear Stamp Set. I carefully pressed the solid heart portion of the stamp onto the inked tree trunk to remove a heart-shaped area of ink. 

I didn't use a stamp block for this step. The clear stamps are flexible, so I was able to press just the desired heart portion of this stamp onto the tree to remove some of the ink. Note: Avoid sliding the stamp around during this step to prevent smudging of the image. Any ink that was not removed from the textured stamp can be removed with a Q-tip.

Once I stamped the trees onto my card, I was ready to alter the wolf.

The Holiday Mix It Up Clear Stamp Set contains a feather which I thought could add some fantastic "fur" to my wolf. I repeatedly inked and stamped my feather onto the solid wolf stamp until it was covered, and then stamped the image onto my card.

I'm really pleased with the twist I put on this stamp set and I hope I have inspired you to try this technique!
