Scrapbook Saturday

Happy Saturday Paper Wings fans!  Erica with you today for Scrapbook Saturday and I am so excited to be sharing a layout I created!  Today is all about stamps and creating a fun background for my layout!

I am using a handful of stamps from the Paper Wings Productions shop to create my fun background.  I started with a white piece of 12x12 cardstock and then started stamping out different images all over the paper.  I already had my photo matted with its layers so I knew where I wanted that to go on my paper so I just added a few pencil lines so I had an idea where to stamp around.

The photo I am scrapbooking is of my son Gavin.  He loves bath time so much and he will be in the tub for sometimes an hour or more!  When he hears the word bath time he gets so excited you would think it was his birthday!!  I wanted to create a fun, festive, party time back ground because bath time to Gavin is just as exciting as a party!

Once I had my images stamped out I pulled out my  and my watercolors from the Paper Wings Productions shop and began to color in some of the images to bring a little bit more color into the layout.
Once the color was dry I added my journaling and some embellishments to the layout and it was complete.

Feature Friday: An Old Fashioned Valentine

It's Shay here.  There has been some truly fabulous projects this week so I recommend first scrolling down to see them all before you return to this post.  I can wait.

Welcome back!  Are the design team talented or what?

Today I have some cuties for you.  What is better than miniature little Valentines?  Okay, winning the lottery to name one thing, but do you recall being a little lady or gent at school and giving and receiving Valentines?  I thought it was better than apple pie and I still love them so I thought why not make some with my awesome Paper Wings Productions stamps?

I created three of these little darlings...honestly I could have made dozens with the ideas swimming in my head. 

I used a nifty new die I bought that is a mini pocket to be the sleeve for my little Valentine cards.  The sleeve measures 2.5" x 3.8" while the cards are approximately 2 3/8" x 3 5/8".

Card No. 1:

This is the true romantic card set.  I inked up the Damask from Backgrounds or Damask using pink and red inks that I then spritzed with water and stamped upon the heart and the outside of the sleeve.  Under the heart is music from the Text Melange or Music in grey ink. I love these essential stamp sets...they work for nearly any theme and project.  I added the amor banner from Milagros which I stamped in red and colored in with Copic markers.  I added a heart and dots (remnants from the XOXO border on the sleeve).  I finished the card with some washi.  The sleeve is decorated with washi, XOXO, pink and white bakers twine and a heart.  The final touch is the little ticket/label from Tabs and Banners stamped with "for you" from Sophie.

Card No. 2:

Here's the sweet card set.  The card is stamped with the birdhouse from Home Tweet Home using VersaMark and embossed with white embossing powder.  Then I colored in the image using Distress Inks.  I chose some unusual and bright colors which I then softened by adding a layer of vellum.  I added another layer of vellum with a scallop heart die cut which I embossed with white embossing powder using a sweet sentiment from Home Tweet Home.  How adorable is this stamp set?  I adhered all the vellum with washi.

Here is a look at the house under the vellum heart:

The inside of the sleeve is decorated with the circles from Backgrounds or Circles and I also inked the edges.  The outside of the sleeve is stamped with the love birds from Home Tweet Home, tied with a white ribbon and finished with a heart.

Card No. 3:

The card for your inner princess or the little princess in your life.  Using Princess I stamped and colored her in with Copic markers.  I then masked her off and used a reverse mask of the scalloped heart to ink in the area behind her and stamp the castle from Prince.  The sentiment is also from Prince.  These are truly charming and lovely stamps and so perfect for children's Valentines.  I finished the card with pink glitter fabric tape.  The sleeve is also decorated with a reverse heart mask that I stamped the crown from Princess on.  Over that I stamped the sprig of flowers from Flower Power or Mini Flowers.  This is finished off with washi, fabric tape and a heart.

What fun these would be to make with your children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, godchild or with the kids at heart in your life!  They would have so much fun making them and so proud to give them out too.  On the back of the cards is plenty of room for a little handwritten note.  Another alternative is to pack these little sweeties in a lunch for school or work.

The possibilities of which Paper Wings Productions stamps to use and how to use them are endless.  I thought Sophie, Louise, Marcel or Luc would be fun to use not to mention the Prince.  You could easily use Paris or London.  Vintage Technology or Play with Your Coffee would be fabulous too.  That is just off the top of my head! 

Another really cool thing about these little card and sleeve duo are that they are still small enough to fit in a Project Life 3x4 pocket which is a lovely thing for anyone doing Project Life.

Feature Friday: Framing a Scene

Happy Friday peeps!

Summer may be waning, but the fun here at The Aviary sure is not.  Have you seen Norma G.'s beautiful mixed media notebook tutorial Monday or Julie's pretty card Wednesday with great ideas on how to make multiples of one card?

Today, I thought I would challenge myself by building several scenes using our Framer (Day Framer, Details Framer, Life Framer and Snapshot Framer--I chose to use the Life Framer and Snapshot Framer) and Window sets.

After you stamp out your frame on cardstock there are several ways to build the scene within a frame:

1. Masking.  You can create a mask of your frame using a masking product or a piece of computer paper with repositionable tape. 
2. Cut Out Scene.  You would stamp your scene inside your frame not worrying about stamping over the frame and simply cut out the inside of the frame and place it on another (clean) stamped image of your frame.
3. Cover Frame.  Similar to the previous option, you would stamp your scene inside your frame not worrying about stamping over frame and the cover the outside frame with another (clean) stamped and cut out image of your frame.

Whichever way you prefer, make several scenes using stamps like London, Paris, Royal Melange, Luc, Louise, Marcel and Sophie.

Now you can add your scenes to all sorts of things.  Place them on a stamped tag:

Stamps used: Window; London and Writing Backgrounds on scene; Double Dot Border and London on background.

1. Stamp scene, color in with Copic markers and cut out inner rectangle.  Adhere inner rectangle to another window image stamped upon patterned paper.  Cut out.

2. Stamp solid Double Dot Border in blue to cover a tag.  Stamp outline Double Dot Border over a few of the solid Double Dot Border in black.

3. Paint a block of gesso where framed scene will be placed.  Outline with dash marks made with black pen.  Adhere framed scene to tag.  Stamp sentiment three times.


Create a simple card (or card set):

Stamps used: Life Framer; Paris, Sophie and Text Melange on scene/heart; Lace Border on card base

1. Stamp scene and color in with Copic markers.  Stamp and cut out frame from patterned paper.  Adhere patterned paper frame over scene and cut out.

2. Stamp heart and color in with Copic markers.  In grey ink stamp Text Melange over heart.  Stamp sentiment from Sophie.  Cut out and add to frame.

3.  Stamp solid Lace Border in blue on card base.  Stamp over solid Lace Border with outline Lace Border in black.

4. Adhere frame to card base.


Find a way to use some scraps by adding your framed scene as a focal image:

Stamps used: Snapshot Framer; Royal Melange and Text Melange on scene; Hanging Stars and Marcel on Snapshot Framer; Backgrounds on background

1. Mask outer frame.  Stamp scene and color in with Copic markers (I did a little masking of the king on this one). Remove mask.  Stamp sentiment from Marcel.  Stamp star from Hanging Stars with yellow and orange inks.

2.  I found two pieces of scraps (or leftovers) to create an interesting background that I adhered onto the card base.  The dark blue embossed background comes from my Mermaid project).  The other was a piece of patterned paper that I had punched a lot of stars for my Once Upon a Time project--for this I merely cut a strip from that.

3. Adhere framed scene to card with dimensional adhesive.

Featured Friday - Quick Mini - Tags

Hi Peeps!

I wanted to share with you today some tags I made recently.  I was actually just playing around with mini mailing tags and the Flourish Fun 1 stamp set to make some quick tags to have on hand. Here is a look at the whole set.



I started with my manila mailing tags and arranged them very close together, but not all facing the same direction.  Some were vertical, some upside down, and some horizontal.  Using the large flourish stamp and one ink color, I stamped the image repeatedly over all of the tags. For each tag, I then picked a focal image (and I had a great time playing with all of these cute girls!) to stamp directly to each tag.  The exception is the princess - she is stamped directly and also onto a blank tag for easier coloring and then adhered with foam tape.  All of the images were colored with Distress Markers, and then I chose Distress ink colors to compliment the coloring using an ink blending tool.  Each tag was finished off with a small sentiment.   Here is a closer look at each of the tags.

It was amazing to me that although these tags all have the same background, the added blend of distress ink gave each one a very different look. This is a VERY easy technique to try and could yield so many different styles from whimsical to elegant.  I hope you will try it and share a link to your creation in the comments section.  We'd love to see it!

What's Up Wednesday: Happy Birthday!!

What's Up?  It seems to be birthday month here at paper wings productions.  This past weekend dear Ms. Liz Allen (fine and fancy) celebrated her birthday and today is Julie's birthday!   Happy belated birthday, Lizzie!  Happy birthday, Julie!

Lately, I have been downright awful about getting out cards to my friends, but I am of the mind that later is better than never (how surprising is it to get a card 6 months after your birthday?  Makes for a long birthday celebration).

Today I am sharing with you the cards I made for Liz and Julie which I haven't given to them yet (Liz and Julie, if you don't want to see your cards here then look away).

Liz's birthday card:

For a starting off point, I wanted to use Liz's Hanging Stars stamp set.  On a 4.5 inch x 5.5 inch piece of white cardstock, I stamped the main curving line image and then alternated between stamping the large folk star and the small folk star onto the bottom of each line with Memento ink by Tsukineko in tuxedo black.

Because the card needed something or someone under the stars, I stamped little Sophie from the Sophie stamp set and added the curvy string and balloon from that set to add some birthday fun again in Memento ink.  I knew I was going to do some paper piecing over some parts of Sophie so I stamped her twice on 2 different pattern papers from Basic Grey's Kissing Booth 6x6 paper pad and Crate Paper's Paper Heart 6x6 paper pad and stamped the balloon once on another paper from the same paper pad.

Before adhering the paper pieces I took out a sponge dauber from Tsukineko and 3 colors of Tim Holtz Distress Ink: tumbled glass, stormy sky and faded jeans.  I began with tumbled glass going over the panel in a circular motion trying to avoid the stars and most of Sophie. Next I came in with stormy sky concentrating the color to the top of the panel and adding some sporadically onto the rest of the panel.  Then I finished up with faded jeans just at the top and around the edges of the panel.  

Then I sprayed iridescent spray over the entire panel.  And I colored in Sophie's skin, hair and mouth with Copic markers.  I also colored in the stars using a white Uni-ball Signo gel pen. 

I then adhered the paper pieced elements to the ballon and Sophie and finished up Sophie by coloring in her socks/tights and shoes with Copic markers again.  To the bottom of the card I added some free hand cut wavy pieces of patterned paper from the Basic Grey Kissing Booth paper pad.

I wanted to add yellow stickles to the stars (stickles are a most for anything for Ms. Liz), but oh no! I have no yellow stickles.  What to do?  I colored in the white stars with a yellow Copic marker and then used Diamond stickles over it.  Problem solved.

I added a little banner stamped from a sweet sentiment handwritten by Liz on a piece of white cardstock and then because the white was too stark I inked up the banner with another sponge dauber using Jenni Bowlin ink in malted milk and inking the edges in brown sugar.  Lastly, I adhered the panel to a kraft colored card base.  Pretty cute!

Julie's birthday card

My starting off point for Julie's card was her Window set (have you seen Julie using this stamp set in her video?  If not, check it out HERE) and I had an idea to pair it with the Happy Day set.

First on a 4.25 inch x 5.5 inch piece of white cardstock I stamped the main window image in upper middle part of the panel in Memento ink in tuxedo black.  I stamped the ledge image at the bottom the window and then colored it in with Copic markers.

Next using some patterned paper from Crate Paper's Paper Heart 6x6 paper pad I stamped the larger pennant from Happy Day 5 times using Memento ink in tuxedo black and cutting them each out.  On each pennant I stamped a letter from the "happy" image and colored them in with a pink Copic marker.  I did ink up the edges.
 
Using the My Mind's Eye Lost and Found Madison Avenue 6x6 paper pad that I received as a present for my birthday this year (thanks, Jane!),  I stamped out the shutters from Window twice and stamped the bird from the set (what a cutie!).  I cut them all out.  To cover up some of my wonky cutting on the bird I used a Precision Pen from American Crafts to edge my birdie friend and I colored him in a bit more with a pink Copic marker.  He was adhered to the ledge.  Isn't he so sweet there?

I adhered the shutters outside the window frame (I colored in part of the image with a Copic marker).  I also did some subtle stamping on the right and left edges of the panel to mimic the texture of stucco using one of the stamps from Julie's Art Textures stamp set using Jenni Bowlin's ink in malted milk.  I also edged the panel with the same ink.

Next I adhered the pennants to a piece of Divine Twine in oyster (gray and white) and adhered it all on top of the window to create a little banner.

I added a little computer generated "birthday" inside the window under the banner.

For a bit more interest I added hand cut stripes of patterned paper from the same Madison Avenue paper pad and also stamped out onto the Madison Avenue paper pad the scallop edged curtain from the Window set using Memento ink and used part of it on the top right hand corner of the card.

My last bit of stamping was to add the longer line from the Window set onto the bottom strips of pattern paper.  Lastly I adhered the panel to a kraft colored card base.

There you have it.  A semi-clean and pretty card for Julie.  Happy birthday, Julie!
